Room acoustics solution for a 60 cubit meter-volume private cinema in Ikoyi, Lagos, NIGERIA. The client required the reduction of noise transmission from the private theatre to surrounding environment and tune the room acoustically. Solution includes complete noise insulation by creating false walls on the existing masonry walls using 20mm MDF boards laid on treated pine wooden frames with 100mm air gap between masonry wall and false wall, insulating two windows using MDF on about 600mm air gap with polyurethane infill, the edges of the false walls were sealed using appropriate acoustic caulk, to achieve an STC value greater than 45, and acoustical room tuning using The room was finished by placing custom made fabric-wrapped broadband (250Hz–4kHz) absorption panel (600mm x1200mm x50mm) on select portions of the room to achieve a room reverberation time (RT60) value of about 0.5 seconds and to break the room’s axial and tangential modes.
